Walnut cremation urn with Irish Shamrock in wood mosaic
This eyecatching walnut cremation urn is part of The Irish Wake Woodcraft Collection, paying homage to the natural beauty of wood.
On its face is a shamrock crafted entirely of four different woods. This carving is made by a process known as Intarsia, which is the ancient art of making pictorial mosaics by laying precious and exotic woods onto a solid wood surface. The pieces are then painted and stained to create the artistic final design.
The shamrock has a long, rich history in Ireland; its three leaves are said to have been used by Saint Patrick in his teachings about the Holy Trinity.
This playful wooden shamrock comes to us from our friends at Royal Tara in Galway, Ireland.
The urn itself is made here in America, hand-crafted of solid walnut, with a light, clear protective topcoat. It is left unstained to allow the gorgeous natural color and grain of the wood to shine through. It features a beveled top and the base layer is removed from beneath via four screws to permit access to the urn's interior.
