Oak cremation urn with small round Celtic cross in wood mosaic
This distinctive oak cremation urn is part of The Irish Wake Woodcraft Collection, paying homage to the natural beauty of wood.
On its top is a small, circular Celtic cross crafted entirely of four different woods. This carving is made by a process known as Intarsia, which is the ancient art of making pictorial mosaics by assembling separate pieces of exotic woods. The pieces are then painted and stained to create the artistic final design.
A circle surrounding the intersection point of two lines is the classic Celtic cross design. The outer ring is widely believed to symbolize Heaven, a moving sentiment for a cremation urn. This particular cross has the added feature of a triskele -- Ireland's characteristic three-sided triangular knot design -- on each arm.
This distinctive wooden Celtic cross comes to us from our friends at Royal Tara in Galway, Ireland.
The urn itself is made here in America, hand-crafted of solid oak, with a light, clear protective topcoat. It is left unstained to allow the gorgeous natural color and grain of the wood to shine through. It is crafted in the distinctive "floating top" style, with the top panel appearing to be inset into the base. Access to the interior is gained from beneath via four screws.
