Cherry cremation urn with Irish Harp in wood mosaic
This distinctive cherry cremation urn is part of The Irish Wake Woodcraft Collection, paying homage to the natural beauty of wood.
On its face is a Celtic Harp crafted entirely of four different woods. This carving is made by a process known as Intarsia, which is the ancient art of making pictorial mosaics by laying precious and exotic woods onto a solid wood surface. The pieces are then painted and stained to create the artistic final design.
From early times to the end of the 19th Century, Ireland is unique in having a musical instrument, the harp, as its national emblem. The harp, which was at the heart of the Irish way of life, is depicted in many ancient manuscripts and Celtic crosses as far back as the 8th Century.
This distinctive wooden Celtic harp comes to us from our friends at Royal Tara in Galway, Ireland.
The urn itself is made here in America, hand-crafted of solid cherry, with a light, clear protective topcoat. It is left unstained to allow the gorgeous natural color and grain of the wood to shine through. It features a beveled top and the base layer is removed from beneath via four screws to permit access to the urn's interior.
